DOP BIOGRAPHY
Chris Oben's film industry career began while completing the film and
video
program at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Today he works professionally as a cinematographer, producer and
Digital
Imaging Technician. As an active member of IATSE 669, Chris specializes
in
film and digital video acquisition for: drama, documentary, broadcast
commercial production and multi-media platforms. He is also an
experienced editor with an intimate understanding of the editor's
requirements in post-production.
Chris' technical competence, creativity and leadership have allowed him
to
benefit crews both locally and internationally, having worked as far
abroad as Peru, Spain, Mongolia and South Africa.
As a Director of Photography, Chris' work airs internationally and
includes
programs for Discovery U.S., Bravo! Television, OLN, Much Music, The
Comedy Network, LIFE Network, WTN, Space Channel, and more.
Several productions featuring his work as D.O.P. / camera operator have
been recognized by awards including: 2001 WorldFest Houston Best
Program (Silver) for "Weird Homes" and the 1996 VCAMMA award for best
commercial spot for Air Canada's 'Maple Leaf Air'. 'Slave to another
God', a collaboration with artist Joel Alden
Kingston for Bravo! Television, was also selected to screen as part
of a 2001 exhibit for the Museum of Modern Art in New York. As well,
the 60 sec television spot "Hooked" won Audience Favourite at
the 2005 Big Rock Eddies.
As methods of electronic communication rapidly develop, Chris has
stayed
at the forefront of his field by continuously upgrading his experience
level and skills to include High Definition as well as multi-media and
internet platforms. He offers experience and understanding in creating
outstanding material whether it's for a tiny "cell phone web-browser"
or a 35' x 50' feature film screen.
